Innovation in the Consumer Products Space – 2021 Winners revealed
South Africa’s most innovative consumer products have been announced in the 2021 Product of the Year results. Product of the Year is South Africa’s largest independent consumer-voted survey which focuses specifically on product innovation. Nielsen conducted the research for 2021.
Despite the turmoil of the last 18 months the quality of the 2021 winners was exceptionally high and they fully deserve the recognition they have received. Clearly the situation and environment has impacted the scale of Product of the Year compared to recent years as the continued affect that COVID is having on all markets and the ongoing lockdowns is experienced by many of the brands.
However, A wide range of consumer households were surveyed across South Africa and winners emerged from categories including kitchenware, cellphones, home entertainment and more.
Established over 30 years ago in France, Product of the Year currently operates in over 40 countries with an effort to guide consumers to the best products in their market and reward manufacturers for quality and innovation.
“Globally we are seeing consistent engagement from market leaders as well as challenger brands. South Africa is an emerging market and we are excited to see the growth of smaller brands entering the market, We know the trading environment has been exceptionally difficult and so particularly congratulate the winners of 2021 ” says Mike Nolan, CEO of Product of the Year Management.
The 2021 winners are …
|Bliss Brands||Dishwashing Liquid||MAQ dishwashing liquid|
|Unilever||Personal Hygiene Women||Shield Motion Activated Female deodorant|
|Unilever||Personal Hygiene Men||Shield Motion Activated Male deodorant|
|Motherkind||Body Health Men||Mankind Groom|
|Oh so pure||Body Health Women||Collagen 100% Hydrolyzed Collagen|
“Unfortunately, due to the continuation of lockdowns on events, we will be unable to have a Product of the Year Awards Ceremony this year. However, we will be engaging with each winner to have an in-house celebration in keeping with the COVID protocols and celebrate with the winners’ teams,” suggests Edith Venter, Manager of Product of the Year South Africa.
The running of Product of the Year during 2021 was challenging due to difficulty in accessing Brand Managers because of staff working remotely. This also affected the research on entries as this had to all be managed online and resulted in delaying our announcement of the winners.
As vaccination roll out increases and the workplace begins to normalise, we do hope that the flow of entries for 2022 will be strong. We do feel that Product of the Year will emerge as a strong platform for brands to be able to showcase and make sure they remain relevant in the marketplace especially in these trying times.
Our 2021 winners are excited to display the Product of the Year logo on the packaging of their winning brands as they know it will help to create great awareness and help them to stand out from the clutter.
