Product of the Year follows five easy steps:
Stage 1: You submit your product Entry is free and open to all products launched in SA over the past 18 months – they just need to demonstrate a level of innovation. NB Products are entered for the whole process.
Stage 2: Our jury selects the finalists Once all products have been submitted, our jury meets to draw up the finalists in each category. Experts from various fields, including manufacturing, marketing and journalism, our judges select only the best products to go on to the next stage. If your product survives this jury there is a charge of R37, 500. For this fee you get a copy of the National research conducted by A.C. Nielsen.
Stage 3: The public chooses the winners Now it’s the turn of the consumers – and they will determine the ultimate winners. In the largest ever independent survey of its kind in South Africa. A.C. Nielsen, the world’s largest research agency, conducts research throughout South Africa to find most innovative products. If you win your category there is a further fee of R160, 000.
Stage 4: Product of the Year Awards Night This is the big event – when hundreds of guests gather to find out which products the public have voted the winners in each category.
Stage 5: The winners promote their awards For the next 12 months manufacturers of the winning products can use the Product of the Year logo on their packaging, promotions and advertising. The stand-out red ‘stamp’ is recognised as a sign of quality by consumers throughout the world. It can therefore give manufacturers an average sales uplift of 10% or greater.
